Acai berry is one of the most abundant fruits found in the Amazon Rainforest from Brazil to Colombia to Peru.

It grows on a palm tree called « Euterpe oleracea » that can reach 20 meters in height.

The berry has been used for thousands of years by the indigenous people of the Amazon. It looks like a grape and has a delicious tropical, naturally sweet taste.
It is deep purple in color and grows to about an inch in diameter.

One of the characteristics of this fruit is that it has a very short shelf life, which is why it is not found in stores.
Instead, one might find it in the form of a juice, smoothie, energy drink, plain yogurt, cereal, oatmeal and powder.

The powder is made of the fruit being freeze-dried soon after harvest. That helps keep in a lot of the natural minerals.
